Frequently Asked Questions

Seniors often find themselves uncertain about the details of Medicare and the associated health insurance. Here are some frequently asked questions and information that seniors may not be aware of.

What if I think my Medigap Insurance rate is to high?

Rates can differ from one company to another. Like most insurance rates, they also fluctuate based on age and gender. Some companies offer household discounts that others do not. At any time, you can ask an agent to review your current plan's rate to determine if there are better options available for you.

Do I Lose Coverage if I Switch Companies?

There are several Medigap plans available, with plans F, G, and N being the most common. If you have a plan G with Company A and I discover a better rate for plan G with Company B, the answer is simply NO. It's crucial to understand the differences between each plan, such as between plan F and G. However, there is no difference when switching companies for the same plan, meaning G to G, F to F, and N to N remain the same.  This can also be confirmed by refrencing 2025 Medicare and You book, on page 77.

Can I Change My Medigap company anytime?

The simple answer is YES! Unlike prescription coverage, which has an enrollment period, your Medigap (supplemental) plan does not have this limitation. If you wish to switch companies to manage rising rates, you are permitted to do so.

Can I go on Medicare Part B and not collect my Social Security yet?

You can apply for Part B through Social Security without having to apply for Social Security benefits right away. Some individuals choose this route to maximize their benefits before they start collecting Social Security. As an agent, I am here to assist you with the application process for either or both benefits.

Can I have a perscription drug plan, Part D, without Medicare?

In short, no. You must be enrolled in Medicare to apply for Part D prescription drug coverage. It's essential to have your agent review your drug coverage annually during open enrollment to ensure you have the right coverage.   Failing to maintain the correct prescription coverage from year to year could lead to additional costs.
